Why now?

I'm one of those people who needs a deadline. I know that doesn't make me special and as a teacher I am constantly reminded that a lot of us are like gasses. We will expand to fit the container we are in. When a container doesn't have boundaries or a task doesn't have deadlines, I find myself expanding and making no progress toward anything being finished.
A few months ago I found the post Travis Baldree made about the process he underwent in publishing Legends and Lattes. I loved the novel, I loved the way he laid out his journey, I loved the idea of learning about new processes and beginning a new journey.
I've been writing for a few years now and I wanted to take the next step. I want to be the project manager and shepherd my creation through the necessary stages to become not just dots on my screen, but a story on pages, waves of sound in the air, and well... dots on other people's screens.
On November 4th 2024, I decided that on the day of my 33rd and a half birthday, I will release my debut novel. On November 5th 2025, Mettle and Ice will become a reality and over the next year I plan to share my successes and failures as I oversee the self publishing process.
Now that this gas has a container, and this author has a deadline (even a self imposed one), I look forward to the adventure!
